17 Best AI Content Creation Tools in 2026, With Current Prices

The first version of this post went up in January 2025, and a fair amount of it had aged badly. Some tools folded their features into bigger products, plan names changed, and prices moved in both directions. This update keeps the original idea, a short list of tools worth paying attention to for writing, images, video and audio, but every entry now comes from the vendor's own pricing and help pages. The numbering is not a score-based ranking. Each entry says what the tool is for and what it costs, and the starter stacks near the end say what I would pay for first.

The "starting paid price" column shows the cheapest paid tier, and most tools have more above it, so the entries below give the fuller price ladder. If you want to compare tools outside this list, our AI tools directory covers more categories.

1. ChatGPT

OpenAI's assistant is still the default starting point for drafts, outlines, rewrites and quick images. The free plan covers everyday chat, with tighter limits on things like image creation. Go costs $8 a month in the US and raises those limits. Plus is $20 a month and adds deep research and more access to OpenAI's advanced models. As checked on October 1, 2026, Pro offers $100, $200 and $500 monthly tiers. Pro 200 is open to new subscriptions again; included allowances and grandfathering vary, so check your account. Only Pro 500 includes Ultrafast at launch. For most writers, Plus is the plan to weigh against Claude Pro and Google AI Pro. Go is the one to try if you mainly keep running out of free-plan limits.

2. Claude

Anthropic's Claude is a strong pick for long-form writing, editing to a style guide, and working through long documents. There is a free plan. Pro is $20 a month, or $200 a year paid upfront, which works out cheaper than twelve monthly payments if you already know you will keep it. Pro adds projects, more models and more usage. Max starts at $100 a month for heavier use and is billed monthly only.

3. Gemini

Google's assistant makes the most sense if your drafts already live in Google Docs and Gmail. The free Gemini app includes image generation with Google's Nano Banana models, with a daily quota. Google AI Pro is $19.99 a month and raises the limits, adds more Nano Banana access and includes credits for Google Flow. Compare the included video allowance with your actual needs; Perplexity Pro also lists video generation, so video access is not an exclusive advantage among these assistants. 4. Perplexity

Perplexity is a research tool more than a writer. It answers with links to its sources, so use it to gather facts before you draft and hand the drafting to one of the assistants above. The current plan guide says Free lacks advanced model access. Pro costs $20/month or $200/year and includes image and video generation. Max is a higher individual tier. Check the detailed plan guide and checkout for current limits and Max pricing rather than assuming a fixed daily allowance.

5. Grammarly

Grammarly is for the last pass: grammar, tone and clarity across your browser and apps. The free plan covers the basics. Grammarly Pro is $30 a month on monthly billing, $60 a quarter, or $144 a year, which works out to $12 a month. That gap is unusually wide. Yearly billing costs less than half the monthly rate, so only pay monthly while you are deciding.

6. Jasper

Jasper is built for marketing teams that want brand voice and campaign tools on top of a language model. For a solo writer who already pays for ChatGPT or Claude, I find it hard to justify. Pro is $69 a month on monthly billing or $59 a month billed yearly. There is a free trial but no free plan.

7. Midjourney

Midjourney is still the tool people reach for when they want a distinctive, stylized look, and it also makes short videos from images. There is no free trial on the website or Discord; a limited trial exists only in the niji · journey mobile app. Its four paid tiers (Basic, Standard, Pro and Mega) cost $10, $30, $60 and $120 monthly; annual billing takes 20% off. V8.2 has been the default since July 24, 2026, and V8.1/V8.2 support native 2048px HD output. Unlimited relaxed image generation starts at Standard, unlimited relaxed video at Pro, and private "Stealth" generation is only on Pro and Mega.

8. Canva

Canva is where a lot of generated images end up anyway, as social posts, thumbnails, slides and ads. Its AI features are available on the free plan with a smaller monthly allowance, and paid plans raise that allowance roughly tenfold, according to Canva's help center. Canva Business is $20 per person per month. Pro pricing varies by region, so check the pricing page for your country.

Before you add either one, try what you already have. ChatGPT and Gemini both generate and edit images inside the chat, and for quick blog headers or social visuals that is often enough. Midjourney earns its place when the look matters more than the speed.

9. Runway

Runway generates video clips from text and images with its Gen-4.5 model and adds editing tools around them. The free plan gives a one-time 125 credits. Standard is $15 a month or $144 a year and includes 625 credits a month. Pro includes 2,250 credits and Max includes 9,500. Max replaced the Unlimited plan for new subscribers on May 29, 2026, and existing Unlimited users move to Max on November 30, 2026. If you are on Unlimited now, check what Max includes before that date.

10. Google Flow

Flow is Google's AI filmmaking tool, built around its Veo video models, and it now also runs Gemini Omni Flash. You need a Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra plan to use it, and each tier comes with a set number of Flow credits. Google AI Pro, at $19.99 a month, includes 1,000. 11. Descript

Descript lets you edit video and podcasts by editing the transcript. For talking-head content, deleting a sentence from the text and having the video follow is the fastest way to cut. It starts free. On annual billing, Hobbyist is $16 a month, Creator $24 and Business $50. Its assistant, Underlord, handles tasks like removing filler words and drafting clips.

12. CapCut

CapCut is the common choice for short vertical video with captions, effects and templates. There is a free version. CapCut Pro lists at $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year, but CapCut says prices vary by region, device and promotion, so the number you see in the app may differ.

13. OpusClip

OpusClip takes a long video, such as a podcast or webinar, and cuts it into short clips with captions. The free plan includes 60 minutes of processing a month. Starter is $15 a month for 150 minutes, and Pro is $29 a month.

14. HeyGen

HeyGen makes presenter-style videos with AI avatars, and it can translate videos with lip sync. The free plan allows up to three videos a month with limited access to premium features. Creator is $29 a month, or $24 a month billed annually, with 600 credits a month.

15. ElevenLabs

ElevenLabs is the usual choice for voiceovers, narration and voice cloning. The free plan gives 10,000 credits a month, but you cannot use it commercially and published content must credit ElevenLabs. For anything paid, Starter is the cheap way to get past that. Paid plans are Starter at $6 a month, Creator at $22 (with the first month at $11) and Pro at $99. Annual billing gives two months free.

16. Suno

Suno generates songs, jingles and background music from a prompt. The free plan gives 50 credits a day, enough for about 10 short songs, for personal use only. Paid plans start at $10 a month, with an annual discount. Pro includes 2,500 credits a month and Premier 10,000, and both come with a commercial use license for songs made while subscribed.

17. Zapier

Zapier is the glue in this list. A common setup sends a new blog post to an AI step that drafts social posts, then drops them into a scheduling tool or a review sheet. The free plan includes 100 tasks a month. Professional is $19.99 a month billed annually, and Team is $69 a month. AI steps are priced by model tier since June 15, 2026. Two tools came off the list. DALL-E 3 went because OpenAI removed it from the API on May 12, 2026. ChatGPT image creation is covered under entry 1; developers should follow OpenAI’s separate recommendation to evaluate GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst. Pika is still running and now sells an API alongside its video app, but we could not confirm its full current plan prices on its official pages, so it is not ranked here.

The old "GPT-5" entry is now simply ChatGPT. The 2025 version named a model, and OpenAI changes the models inside ChatGPT often enough that naming the product and its plans is more useful.

The new entries are Gemini, Perplexity, Canva, Google Flow, Descript, CapCut, OpusClip, HeyGen and Suno. Grammarly, Jasper and Zapier were mentioned before and now have full entries.

For this update, we checked each tool's plans, prices and free tier on its official pricing page or help center on September 25, 2026. We removed tools that had shut down or been retired, and tools whose current pricing we could not confirm from the vendor. The "best for" labels describe what each tool is designed and marketed to do. They are not scores from a formal benchmark, and this update did not include new hands-on testing.

Prices change often, and many vary by country, taxes and billing period. Treat the numbers here as a starting point and confirm on the vendor's page before you buy.

What is the best AI tool for content creation in 2026?

There is no single best tool. For writing, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini all have a free plan and a paid plan around $20 a month. For images, Midjourney and the image features inside ChatGPT and Gemini lead. For video, Runway and Google Flow generate footage, while Descript, CapCut and OpusClip handle editing and clipping. ElevenLabs is the usual pick for voiceover.

How much does an AI content stack cost per month?

A writer can start at $0 on free plans or about $20 a month for one paid assistant such as ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro or Google AI Pro. Adding a video editor and a voice tool usually puts a solo creator somewhere between $40 and $70 a month at the prices checked on September 25, 2026. Many tools are cheaper when billed annually.

Which AI content tools have a free plan?

14 of the 17 tools on this list have a free plan or a free starting allowance: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grammarly, Canva, Runway, Descript, CapCut, OpusClip, HeyGen, ElevenLabs, Suno and Zapier. Midjourney and Jasper do not offer a free plan, and Google Flow needs a Google AI subscription. Free plans on ElevenLabs and Suno do not allow commercial use.

Is DALL-E 3 still available?

DALL-E 3 was removed from the OpenAI API on May 12, 2026. For a consumer workflow, ChatGPT offers image creation. For an API integration, OpenAI recommends GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst on the retired DALL-E 3 model page; ChatGPT itself is not an API migration target.

Can I use AI-generated content commercially?

It depends on the tool and the plan. ElevenLabs' free plan is non-commercial and requires attribution, and Suno only grants a commercial license on its Pro and Premier plans. Check each tool's terms for the plan you are on before publishing client or monetized work.
